Almost all of the car manufacturers in India are aware of the huge potential that they can and have to un lock. Till the decade of 1980’s, India took pride in riding bicycles or two wheelers at the max. But 1990’s changed the auto sector in India and saw Indian automobile companies set up factories and plants at various places in the country. But the front runner in the sector undoubtedly was Maruti Suzuki Pvt. Ltd. With more than 70 percent of the car market in India and offered competitive car rates in India. More over, people took pride in driving a Maruti 800 cc car and considered it to be a status symbol and a poor man’s vehicle. But as the time passed, more and more automotive companies India began to make a start in the sector.

In addition to Maruti Suzuki came more foreign car makers like Hyundai, Honda, Mercedes, Toyota etc. all with a target of reaching at least 25 per cent of the car sector in India. By the year 2000, things went smooth for them. And at the dawn of 2001, came the time when all the Indian car companies got a stiff competition from the foreign car makers who started making cars in the range of around 3 Lacs.

With passage of more time, around middle of first decade of the 21st century, came more companies like Rolls Royce, Mercedes with its payback car worth more than 3 crores which sold like hot cakes then. After a while, Auto Companies India started capturing more Indian market by wooing buyers, especially the middle class with more innovative and stylish cars like the Tata Nano which started at a mere 1.5 Lacs rupees.
